We as Designer Outlet Berlin are aware of our responsibility and care about our planet and people.
The Designer Outlet Berlin was built in compliance with BREEAM standards for sustainable building management. What is BREEAM? - The British BREEAM certificate is a benchmark for assessing the environmental impact of a property in terms of: building materials, solar energy, waste management, rainwater use, sustainable management, site accessibility, bicycle paths, charging stations for electric vehicles. At Designer Outlet Berlin, there is also a flexible Open Door Policy that encourages employees to actively control the temperature in their shops. The use of heating/cooling systems should thus be minimized.
To improve energy efficiency, all lighting is consistently being converted to LED technology. LEDs are characterized by significantly lower energy consumption and a longer lifespan compared to conventional lamps. This not only reduces operating costs but also lowers CO₂ emissions. At the same time, the modern lighting ensures uniform and reliable illumination, thereby contributing to a sustainable and future-oriented overall concept. The Designer Outlet Berlin is supplied 100% with green energy and additionally uses photovoltaic systems on the roofs. Through its own electricity generation with PV systems, part of the energy demand is also directly covered on site.
In parking lot 2, ten e-charging stations are available. With this, we actively promote electromobility and make an important contribution to reducing CO₂ emissions as well as decreasing air pollution. At the same time, we set a visible sign of environmental awareness and sustainable action. Furthermore, with this offer, we meet the needs of our visitors, as more and more people are switching to electric vehicles and expect a reliable charging infrastructure.
The irrigation systems used ensure a demand-oriented and targeted supply of water to the green areas. This optimizes water consumption and avoids unnecessary waste. In addition, water-saving measures are observed to sustainably conserve resources. The use of a robotic lawn mower enables efficient and even maintenance of the green areas, reduces energy and labor requirements, and contributes to a consistently well-maintained appearance. Our cleaning companies are also encouraged to save water. Additionally, they use only environmentally friendly, certified cleaning agents.
In the outdoor area, nesting boxes have been installed to provide native bird species with additional breeding and retreat spaces, thereby strengthening biodiversity. Complementing this, there are wildflower meadows that create valuable habitats for bees, butterflies, and other pollinators while simultaneously enabling a natural, low-maintenance appearance. The seasonal planting at Designer Outlet Berlin is done with native plants that are adapted to the regional conditions, reduce maintenance effort, and support local wildlife. Overall, this concept contributes to greater biodiversity and emphasizes a sustainable and environmentally conscious design concept for the outdoor area.
In close cooperation with the involved supply and disposal companies, we pay attention to a sensible pre-sorting of waste into individual recyclable material groups.
Through donations, we support local clubs or events in the community and thus contribute to securing and developing local offerings. In the context of events, we regularly cooperate with social institutions that support children, hospices, medical care, and people in need. Our goal is optimal support and regular donations to the respective organizations. Sustainable bags are made from used tarpaulin material through upcycling, which allows existing resources to be reused and waste to be reduced. This creates a meaningful and environmentally friendly product cycle. In addition, the "Better Shopping" dropbox offers the opportunity to donate clothing. These are collected and donated to humanitarian organizations, allowing well-preserved textiles to be reused while simultaneously supporting social projects.
The Designer Outlet Berlin is recognized as an accessible center. This has high priority when implementing construction measures. In addition, there are separate rooms for families to change and nurse their children, as well as a quiet room for praying and meditating.
